License and registration, please, and do you know why I pulled you over?
Driver
Honestly, I have no idea, officer, was I speeding or something?
Officer
You were going forty-five in a thirty zone back there.
Driver
Wait, really? I honestly didn't even notice the speed limit sign.
Officer
That's what most drivers say, but it's still going to cost you a fine.
Driver
Come on, is there any way you could just give me a warning instead?
Officer
I get that request a lot, but your record shows this isn't your first offense.
Driver
Ugh, that's fair, I did get a ticket last year for running a red light.
Officer
Right, so this time I'm going to have to write you up officially.
Driver
Okay, I understand, how much is this one going to set me back?
Officer
It's around one hundred and fifty dollars, plus a few points on your license.
Driver
Seriously? That's going to make my insurance go through the roof.
Officer
Yeah, unfortunately that's usually what happens after a second offense.
